Lets talk about our Natural Hair - Interactive

Source
I am doing this post because I told a fellow blogger, MPB, sometime ago that I was gonna do it. The idea is from JC of Natural Haven in this post http://thenaturalhaven.blogspot.com/2011/12/are-you-happy-with-your-hair.html#comment-form. She was using it conduct the last poll for the year 2011. Feel free to do something similar on your blog, even if you are not a hair blogger.

I should be able to offer advice to you after you do the post or if you ask any question regarding it in the comment section. Should you decide to do the post, please, drop a comment in the comment section so I can respond to your issues.

I want to know if you are happy with

1. Your texture
2. Your products (or knowledge of what products you should pick to suit your hair's needs)
3. Your techniques (i.e are you happy and confident with your wash day and styling?)
4. Your length (are you able to maintain or gain length?)

Here goes mine

1. I am happy with the texture of my hair. My hair is thick and full, I notices that my edges are more curly and delicate than the majority of my hair. All in all, I have no issues with the texture.

2. For now, I try to keep it simple when it comes to products. I made a lot of mistakes when I started letting my hair out by not educating myself on what ingredients to stay away from. I always acted in ignorance and took everything I read hook, line and sinker. But since rolling with fellow bloggers like Natural Nigerian, Screwy Hair, Natmane, etc, my eyes have opened now. I also conduct my own research and I am now better educated.

As regards of what products really suit my hair's needs, I don't really know what my hair likes and their response to different products, this is unlike Natmane whose hair talks to her and reacts differently in different situations. I just make sure I balance out moisture and protein. I don't joke with moisture on my hair at all. It is embedded in my daily regimen.
All in all, I keep it simple.

3. I am very happy with my techniques. I make sure I don't manipulate my hair too much and I am always mostly in protective styles. I do twist outs for about 2 days when I undo my protective style. I am happy with my washing and maintenance regimen

4. In my days of stupidity ignorance, I did not retain as much length cos I handled my hair too roughly. I combed harshly, expecting the hair to obey me. In the end, I lost almost of the length of the new growth I had. It used to be really heart breaking. I stopped this and tried detangling only while washing. I also stopped playing with my hair too much. My length retention is now better.

So there it is. Do yours and lets see how it goes.

  1. My hair is under a weaveon now and so I can't really say whether it's happy or not, lol. seriously though, I didn't know I would keep it unrelaxed this long, so that shows how happy I am with it.

    1. Hi Aloted!
When I say my hair talks to me I mean that my hair revolts when It doesn't like what I do to it or when I use the wrong product. With weather change comes a compulsory change in product and regimen and if I dont go through this change I would be in a constant struggle with my hair which leads to hair loss and pain!!
So when we say our hair talks to us we mean that we know when we need to change our products and regimen for easier hair maintenance. In my opinion when you find yourself fighting with your hair then you need to try some other product or technique. Peace and Blessings!!

  3. I can assure you that some people's hair are really choosy about products. I think these set if people let their hair out a lot and this is the reason why they are so observant about how their hair 'behaves' under different circumstances

  6. Just wanted to update and say pre pooing with oils is helping tremendously, definitely now a holy grail. Also, letting my hair rest under lacefront wigs till the summer. Every two weeks I do an oil treatment and wash the hair before putting the wig back on. Good luck with styling your mannequin and refining your skills.

  7. I have been extremely lazy about learning to make my hair but every other thing is in check. I have very soft hair thanks to olive/jojoba/butter therapy. The dreaded big chop was done in December, its not as bad as I thought it would be, Im gaining my lenght back but styling is still a major issue. I wish there were natural hair salons around!
